This gold-plated double sixpence necklace is inspired by pieces worn by celebrities, such as TV presenter Holly Willoughby, and features two genuine Queen Elizabeth II sixpence coins, carefully soldered together with one showing the obverse and the other the reverse, allowing the design to be enjoyed from both sides. The coins are finished in 18ct yellow gold plate and suspended from a delicate 18ct gold plated sterling silver chain, then polished by hand in our Cambridge workshop.

The sixpence has long been associated with luck, prosperity, and happiness, particularly in British wedding tradition. Design & protective finish
Like most people, I’ve worn and loved gold-plated jewellery over the years - and I’ve also seen how, with time and regular wear, plating can inevitably begin to fade where it rubs against skin or clothing. Wanting my customers to enjoy this necklace for as long as possible, I looked for a way to protect the finish without changing the look or feel of the piece.
The result is a clear, jewellery-grade resin layer applied discreetly to the reverse of the pendant. Designed to rest gently against the skin or clothing, this protective layer helps reduce friction and preserve the gold plating over time. It’s a thoughtful addition you won’t find on standard gold-plated coin jewellery, created purely to extend the life and enjoyment of the necklace.
The resin is not visible when worn and allows the necklace to retain its elegance while being practical enough for real, everyday use.
Each coin shows gentle signs of age and circulation, adding to its individual character and authenticity.

Care & materials note
Sixpences from this era were minted in cupronickel. While the resin layer helps minimise contact with the skin, those with a known nickel sensitivity should consider this carefully before purchasing. If you require a hypoallergenic alternative, we also offer similar designs made using sterling silver sixpence coins.
As with all Mintique of Cambridge designs, this necklace is made slowly and intentionally using genuine historic coins and careful craftsmanship to create jewellery that feels personal rather than mass-produced.

This necklace is handmade and will be dispatched within 1-2 working days of placing the order. Delivery is FREE within the UK. A signature may be required upon arrival. International delivery is available (cost depends on your location - calculated at checkout). Please get in touch if you require your order sooner and I will do my best to accommodate.

I want you to love your jewellery but if something’s not quite right, I’ll make it right. You have 30 days after receiving your item to request a return.
How to start a return
To begin a return, just email me (Katie) at info@mintique.co.uk with your order number and reason for return. Once your return is approved, I’ll send full instructions on where to send your package.
Please contact me before sending anything back - items returned without prior notice may not be accepted.
Return conditions
To be eligible for a return:
- The item must be unworn and in its original condition
- It must include original packaging
- You’ll need a receipt or proof of purchase
Return shipping costs are the responsibility of the customer unless the item is faulty or incorrect.
