A rare piece of British history, reimagined as jewellery, often called 'The rarest Sixpence of the 20th Century'

This striking double sixpence necklace features two genuine 1952 sixpence coins from the final year of King George VI’s reign - one showing the obverse portrait of the King and the other a crowned monogram featuring G VI R (George VI King) dividing the date (19-52).

"Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a silver sixpence in her shoe."

A meaningful and distinctive gift

This rare coin necklace is perfect for:

  • Brides and bridesmaids
  • Weddings and anniversaries
  • Milestone birthdays
  • Collectors of historic coins
  • Anyone drawn to British heritage and meaningful jewellery

Because of the scarcity of genuine 1952 George VI sixpences, only a very small number of these necklaces can be made.

Includes a beautifully designed Sixpence history card, sharing the story, symbolism, and tradition behind this iconic British coin - from “something old” wedding customs to its place in everyday life.

For the perfect gift we have a luxury Mintique of Cambridge branded jewellery box - simply add it to your order.

Full Description

  • The coins are carefully soldered together back-to-back so the full design can be seen from both sides, then suspended from a delicate sterling silver chain and hand-finished to a high polish in our Cambridge workshop.
  • A coin with history: The sixpence has long been woven into British tradition. For generations it symbolised luck, prosperity, and happiness for the bride. This necklace offers a modern way to wear that tradition transforming a historic coin into a piece that can be worn and treasured every day. With its balanced design and clean lines, the necklace is quietly striking yet easy to wear. It works just as beautifully with everyday outfits as it does for special occasions.
  • Unlike the more commonly found Queen Elizabeth II sixpences, 1952 coins belong to a very short and significant moment in British history, minted in the final year before the accession of Queen Elizabeth II. Surviving examples are much harder to find, making pieces like this especially sought after and unusual. Only a small number of genuine 1952 sixpences are available, so production of this design is extremely limited.
  • Each coin has lived a life before becoming jewellery and may show gentle signs of age or circulation, adding to its individual character and authenticity.
  • Care & materials note: Sixpences from this era were minted in cupronickel and are polished to a bright finish. This can be easily maintained with an occasional gentle wipe using a soft cloth. If you have a known nickel sensitivity, please consider this when purchasing, as small amounts of nickel may come into contact with the skin. As with all Mintique of Cambridge designs, this necklace is made slowly and intentionally using genuine historic coins and careful craftsmanship to create jewellery that feels personal rather than mass-produced.
