Sustainability at Mintique of Cambridge

At Mintique of Cambridge, sustainability isn’t about following trends - it’s about making thoughtful decisions at every stage of the process.

From the materials we use to how each piece is made and packaged, the aim is simple: to create meaningful jewellery in a way that respects both craftsmanship and the world around us.

Coin selection

Upcycled coins with history

Every piece begins with a genuine coin - most of them have been in general circulation.

I don’t use casts or reproductions so each ring, necklace, or accessory is made from an authentic coin with its own history, character, and story.

By repurposing coins that are no longer in circulation, these pieces are given a new life - transforming them into modern jewellery rather than letting them go unused.

No two pieces are ever exactly the same and that’s exactly the point.

Mintique of Cambridge Values

Thoughtful Reuse Over Mass Production

Reworking the past, not creating waste

Mintique of Cambridge designs are rooted in reuse.

Rather than relying solely on newly manufactured materials, I work with what already exists - carefully transforming historic coins into something new.

It’s a slower, more considered process, but one that avoids unnecessary production and keeps the focus on quality over quantity.

British made

Handmade in Cambridge, England

Every piece is made by hand in my Cambridge workshop by me, Katie! There’s no factory line - just careful craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Wherever possible, tools, coins, and other supplies are sourced from UK-based businesses, helping to reduce our overall carbon footprint and support local industry.

Made to Last

Designed for longevity

Sustainability isn’t just about materials. It's also about how long something lasts.

At Mintique of Cambridge, we focus on creating jewellery that can be worn and treasured for years, not months.

That means:

  • Working with durable materials such as sterling silver coins
  • Using solid construction methods (no drilled holes or shortcuts)
  • Ensuring each piece is comfortable and wearable

These aren’t trend pieces. They’re heirlooms.

Eco-Friendly Packaging

Thoughtful, responsible packaging

Your jewellery arrives in packaging designed to protect it and minimise environmental impact.

Our packaging is:

  • Eco-friendly and recyclable
  • Made using organic and recycled materials
  • Fairtrade® and FSC®-certified where applicable

The FSC® certification ensures materials come from responsibly managed forests, where biodiversity is protected and workers are treated and paid fairly.

Where possible, we avoid plastic and prioritise packaging that can be reused or kept.

A Considered Approach

A small British business, a lower footprint

As a small, independent business, we’re able to take a more considered approach.

We produce in small quantities, avoid mass manufacturing, and focus on making each piece to order - all reducing unnecessary waste and excess stock.

“I believe strongly in preserving our planet and repurposing beautiful works of art into modern, elegant pieces.”
