Jewellery Sizing Guide
One of the most common questions I receive is:
“What length should I choose?”
The truth is how a necklace sits on your neckline is a very personal preference. That’s why most Mintique necklaces are available in:
14” – Choker length
16” – Sits at the collarbone
18” – Just below the collarbone (most popular)
20” – Lower neckline
Important note for double coin necklaces
If you choose an 18-inch chain at checkout, that means: 18-inch chain + the width of the pendant. So the total drop will be slightly longer than 18 inches once worn.
How to choose the right length
Option 1 – Use string
Wrap a piece of string around your neck at your desired length. Measure the string with a ruler to find your ideal chain length.
Option 2 – Measure a favourite necklace
Lay a necklace you love flat and measure the full length from clasp to clasp. This is especially useful when buying a gift.
Still unsure?
Choosing jewellery should feel exciting not stressful. If you're hesitating between sizes or buying as a surprise, just get in touch. I’d much rather guide you beforehand than adjust things afterwards.
I completely understand that ordering a ring online can feel daunting. That’s exactly why I created my Perfect Fit Method – a step-by-step way to help you feel confident in your choice. That said, I do require a ring size at the time of ordering but there are several simple ways to find yours.
Before you measure, a few important notes
- Fingers change size throughout the day (warmer = slightly larger).
- Cold weather can temporarily shrink fingers.
- Wider bands need slightly more room than slim bands.
- If stacking rings, you may need to go up half a size.
- Knuckle size matters - the ring should slide over comfortably but not spin excessively.
4 Ways to find your ring size
1. Visit a local jeweller (most accurate)
The easiest and most reliable method is to pop into a high street or independent jeweller and ask to be measured in UK sizing (A–Z+6). If you’re in the US, ask for your US ring size, and use the conversion chart below. This measurement will be pretty accurate but I use Durston tools (the gold standard in ring making) so your jewellers tools may not exactly match (which is why I developed my Perfect Fit Method).
2. Measure an existing ring
If you already own a ring that fits the correct finger:
- Measure the inside diameter (not the outside).
- Measure across the widest inner points.
- Use the chart below to match the diameter to a UK size.
This is especially useful for gifts.
3. Use the wire method
- Take a thin piece of wire or a straightened paper clip.
- Form a loop and gently tighten until it fits comfortably over your knuckle.
- Slide it off and cut the loop open.
- Flatten and measure the length in millimetres.
- This measurement gives you your finger circumference, which you can match below.
4. Adjustable belt sizers
These wrap around your finger like a tiny measuring belt. They can give an approximate size, but must stay circular (not squashed) for accuracy. Follow the instructions enclosed with the device carefully.
Please avoid using printable ring charts - printer scales can vary and give inaccurate readings.
