A statement piece with deep-rooted British tradition behind it.

This double sixpence necklace features two genuine Queen Elizabeth II coins, carefully soldered back-to-back so the design can be enjoyed from both sides. Finished in 18ct gold plate and suspended from a delicate gold plated sterling silver chain, each piece is polished by hand in our Cambridge workshop.

One of our most popular designs, loved for its symbolism and timeless simplicity.

  • Genuine vintage sixpence coins
  • Handmade in Cambridge
  • Finished in 18ct gold plate with protective backing
  • Includes a Sixpence history card with story and symbolism

Design & protective finish

Gold-plated jewellery can naturally wear over time where it touches skin or clothing. To help preserve the finish, this necklace includes a subtle protective layer.

A clear, jewellery-grade resin is applied to the reverse of the pendant - the side that rests against the skin. This helps reduce friction and extend the life of the gold plating, without affecting the look or feel of the piece.

The resin is discreet and clear when worn, allowing the necklace to remain elegant while being practical for everyday use.

A meaningful gift

Perfect for:

  • Brides and bridesmaids
  • Weddings and anniversaries
  • Milestone birthdays
  • Lovers of British heritage

Includes a beautifully designed Sixpence history card, sharing the story and symbolism behind this iconic British coin - from traditional wedding customs to its place in everyday life.

Full Description

  • The sixpence has long been associated with luck, prosperity, and happiness, particularly in British wedding tradition: "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a silver sixpence in her shoe". Traditionally tucked into a bride’s shoe, this necklace offers a modern way to wear that symbolism reimagined as a meaningful piece of jewellery to be worn and treasured long after the day itself.
  • Balanced, elegant, and easy to wear, this design works just as beautifully with everyday outfits as it does with occasion wear, making it one of our most loved and gifted pieces. This double sixpence necklace is inspired by pieces worn by celebrities, such as TV presenter Holly Willoughby, and features two genuine Queen Elizabeth II sixpence coins, carefully soldered together with one showing the obverse and the other the reverse, allowing the design to be enjoyed from both sides.
  • Includes a beautifully designed Sixpence history card, sharing the story, symbolism, and tradition behind this iconic British coin - from “something old” wedding customs to its place in everyday life.
  • Care & materials note: Sixpences from this era were minted in cupronickel. While the resin layer helps minimise contact with the skin, those with a known nickel sensitivity should consider this carefully before purchasing. If you require a hypoallergenic alternative, we also offer similar designs made using sterling silver sixpence coins.
  • As with all Mintique of Cambridge designs, this necklace is made slowly and intentionally using genuine historic coins and careful craftsmanship to create jewellery that feels personal rather than mass-produced.
