A bold and meaningful ring with timeless character

This handmade sterling silver coin ring is crafted from an original British shilling - a twelve-pence coin used in everyday British life for over 400 years, and known affectionately as a “bob.”

Each ring is individually shaped, polished, and sized in my Cambridge workshop, retaining the coin’s original details both inside and out making it a true piece of wearable history.

With its bolder profile and distinctive texture, the shilling ring is perfect as a men’s wedding band, anniversary gift, or statement piece for anyone who values craftsmanship and heritage.

Coin history

The British shilling was first minted in the early 16th century and continued to be produced until 1966. It remained in circulation until decimalisation in 1971, after which it was revalued as five new pence and finally withdrawn in 1990. This ring is made from a pre-1920 sterling silver shilling, giving it not only historical character but also intrinsic value.

💡 Did you know?

• “A bob” was common slang for a shilling in pre-decimal Britain
• These coins were widely used during the WW2 rationing era
• Designs featured monarchs including Queen Victoria, Edward VII, and George V

The making of your heirloom

Each ring takes several days to make, with meticulous attention to detail at every stage. I only use genuine, publicly circulated coins, rejecting any that are overly worn or damaged by time.

Because of the handmade process and natural variations in minting years, each finished ring may differ slightly from the photos shown — that's what makes yours completely unique.

Your ring will arrive in a beautiful presentation box, ready to gift (or keep for yourself!).
