A subtle statement piece with rich Irish heritage behind it.

This double Irish threepence necklace is made using two genuine pre-decimal Irish threepence coins, carefully soldered together and finished by hand in our Cambridge workshop. The coins are paired so the iconic hare design is visible from both sides, creating a balanced, tactile pendant with real character.

Suspended from a sterling silver chain, this necklace is polished to a high shine and designed to be both meaningful and easy to wear. Understated yet distinctive, it’s a piece that quietly celebrates Irish identity, tradition, and symbolism.

The Irish threepence is particularly beloved for its designs. The hare is often associated with luck, abundance, and folklore making this necklace a thoughtful choice for those with Irish roots, animal lovers, or anyone drawn to jewellery with story and spirit.

Matching earrings are designed to pair with this necklace and are automatically discounted when added to your order.

Coin design & symbolism

Each Irish threepence features:

  • A hare on one face
  • A Celtic harp with date on the reverse - a powerful symbol of Irish identity and independence

By pairing two coins together, this necklace allows the animal design to be enjoyed from both sides, giving the piece a sense of intention and completeness.

Each coin shows gentle signs of age and circulation, adding to its individual character and authenticity.

A meaningful gift

This necklace makes a thoughtful and versatile gift for:

  • Those with Irish heritage or connections
  • Weddings and anniversaries
  • Birthdays and milestone occasions
  • Animal lovers and collectors of meaningful jewellery

Its simplicity and symbolism make it easy to wear every day or to keep as a special piece tied to memory and meaning.

Care & materials note

Irish threepence coins from this era were minted in cupronickel. Those with known nickel sensitivities should avoid wearing the pendant directly against the skin. The chain itself is sterling silver.

As with all Mintique of Cambridge designs, this necklace is made slowly and intentionally using genuine historic coins and careful craftsmanship to create jewellery that feels personal rather than mass-produced.

For an elevated gifting experience, this necklace can be upgraded to arrive in our Mintique of Cambridge luxury branded jewellery box. Designed to complement the heritage nature of the piece, it makes a beautiful finishing touch for birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, or meaningful occasions.
