A minimalist statement piece rooted in British wedding tradition.
This single British sixpence necklace features a genuine Queen Elizabeth II sixpence coin carefully soldered onto a sterling silver jump ring and suspended from a delicate sterling silver chain. Each piece is finished by hand in our Cambridge workshop, creating a necklace that is simple, meaningful, and easy to wear.
The sixpence has long been associated with luck, prosperity, and happiness, particularly in British weddings. Traditionally placed in a bride’s shoe, it appears in the familiar rhyme:
“Something old, something new,
Something borrowed, something blue,
And a silver sixpence in her shoe.”
This necklace offers a modern way to wear that tradition - close to the heart, rather than hidden away - making it a thoughtful choice for brides, bridesmaids, or anyone drawn to jewellery with story and symbolism.
Matching earrings are designed to pair with this necklace and are automatically discounted when added to your order.

Care & materials note
Sixpences from this era were minted in cupronickel and are polished to a bright finish, which can be easily maintained with an occasional gentle wipe using a soft cloth or using a jewellery polish cloth (add our own recommended cloth to your order).
If you have a known nickel sensitivity, please consider this when purchasing, as small amounts of nickel may come into contact with the skin. If you require a hypoallergenic alternative, we also offer similar designs made using sterling silver sixpence coins.
As with all Mintique of Cambridge designs, this necklace is made slowly and intentionally using genuine historic coins and careful craftsmanship to create jewellery that feels personal rather than mass-produced.
Each piece is presented ready for gifting, with optional upgrade to our luxury Mintique of Cambridge jewellery box.
